National ACES 2010 in Winnipeg a resounding success

2010-07-16

Residents trained from all Canadian Critical Care Programs

CRI's team travelled west for this ground breaking course, held at the stellar venue of the University of Manitoba's Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre from July 8-9th.  Residents from all Critical Care programs across Canada benefitted from the expert instruction of the best in Critical Care Nationwide.   We were hosted and sponsored by University of Manitoba and want to acknowledge that this course would not have been possible without the generous donations of funds and facility made by so many of University of Manitoba faculties(Thank you to: Dept of Emergency Medicine, Dept. of Medicine, Dept of Anesthesia and the Section of Critical Care)

Special recognition is due to Dr. Faisal Siddiqui, Course Director 2010, his impeccable attention to detail in hosting this event and to his amazing team comprised of Dr. Dean Bell, Dr. Robert Brown, Dr. Luke Terrett, Dr. Jay Ross, Dr. Thomas Jacob.  Also, we want to acknowledge the entire group of dedicated Instructor trainees who took part in the Instructor certification course on the 7th and joined the amazing group of RN and RTs to help us maintain the incredible level of instruction over the entire 3 days.

Dr. Dean Sandham was our keynote speaker and addressed the residents at our meet and greet event to pass on some of his vast experience over his long and illustrious career.  His mentorship was key to some of our Master instructors when they were starting out so it was especially meaningful for him to share as this group begins their Critical Care residency.

Special thanks from our CRI team to Mary-Anne Henderson, Program Coordinator for all her help in coordination onsite in Winnipeg; to the wonderful/tireless technical help from Edward Walker and Manju Balachandar at the Sim centre, and to receptionist Gloria de Paz-Hyrniuk for all they did for us during our amazing stay in Winnipeg.

We also want to thank Pfizer and Fresenius Kabi for their generous donations of unrestricted educational grants.

National ACES 2010 in Winnipeg was a resounding success and we want to thank all of our incredible faculty for donating their very valuable time to teach at National every year, the generosity and expertise of our instructors is the key to the continued success of our National Course.

More to come soon about National ACES 2011!!!

Society of Rural Physicians, Simulation Workshop

2008-11-28

Sheraton Center, November 26th 2008

CRI was able to partner with the SRPC as a conference sponsor and by presenting a one day workshop on Nov. 26th in Toronto. The Mega Codes Simulation Workshop focused on the early management of patients presenting with critical illnesses.  It  included a one-hour presentation on the principles of early resuscitation focusing on crisis and resource management (CRM). The presentation was followed by three two-hour sessions using high-fidelity simulation which gave each participant ample opportunity to practice CRM and to receive feedback.  This workshop was designed to give participants  the ability to feel much more confident in caring for critically ill patients, managing a team, and applying the principles of CRM during real-life crisis.  As a not for profit organization, we look forward to future collaboration with the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada in order to continue our commitment to empowering health care providers and ensuring improved access to quality critical care everywhere.
