Objective

Upon successful completion of the CCRT course, participants will be able to:

  • Perform a primary assessment of critical care outreach patients based upon assessment of ABC's (Airway, Breathing, and Circulation) and provide immediate treatment when necessary.
  • Make rapid triage decisions based upon triage of ABC's (Admit to ICU, Borderline, and Consult).
  • Develop a preliminary care plan and communicate it effectively to the patient care team.

Target Population

This course is designed for the primary responders of the CCRT. Specifically, this course is targeted for healthcare providers with some experience in critical care that have been selected for, or are interested in becoming part of a Critical Care Response Team.

The course is divided into 14 modules that are delivered to students over 2 days.

Communication Orientation to CCRT, CNS

Based on feedback from particpants and evaluations, two modules have been removed from the 2 day course. These modules remain available for ongoing education for the CCRT members. The two modules are:

Sepsis and Infectious Disease

Provide evidence based therapy for patients with severe sepsis

Circulation 1

Electrolytes Disturbances

Recognize and treat electrolyte disorders

Module Format

The course is a two-day intensive interactive workshop. Participants will be expected to participate in hands-on skill development exercises. The course will run from 0800 to 1800H, with a one-hour lunch break and one 15-minute break in the morning and afternoon. The course is designed for a maximum enrollment of 24 participants. Participants will be divided into three streams, with eight students per stream. When participants enter the simulation modules, they will be further divided into two groups of four participants.

Course Instructor: Participant ratio

One CRI-certified Instructor: 8 participants
One CRI instructor: 4 participants for the simulation sessions

Course Evaluation

The CCRT course is not intended to assess participant knowledge but rather to provide the participant with a comprehensive yet concise approach to the assessment and management of critically ill patients. As part of our commitment to continuous quality management all participants will be required to submit and anonymous evaluation on completion of the course.

Certificate of Participation

Every participant will receive a certificate of participation on completion of the course and evaluation process.
