Objective
Upon successful completion of the Sepsis course, the participant will have been taught to:
- Identify patients with severe sepsis and septic shock
- Describe the latest research regarding the detection and treatment of sepsis
- Describe why early detection and management of sepsis saves lives
- Detect sepsis and provide treatment for a patient with sepsis according to the best evidence
Target Population
The Sepsis Course targets all physicians who may be called upon infrequently to manage critically ill patients. With this in mind, the audience is not limited to physicians who work in an intensive care unit, but rather it is suitable for a much broader audience.

Sepsis Course Module Format
The Sepsis Course is a two and a half hour case-based interactive seminar for a small group of 15 participants. The course can be combined with other hands-on skills workshops such as circulation (Fluid resuscitation and vasopressor therapy), central line insertion and/or a simulation module.
Sepsis Course Instructor: Participant ratio
An accredited CRI Sepsis instructor will teach to a maximum group size of 15 participants so although the overall class size may be larger, the instructor:participant ratio will be no greater than 15:1
Course Evaluation
All participants in the Sepsis courses are provided with a preliminary needs assessment form prior to the beginning of the program. This form provides essential information that enables CRI Critical Care Education Network to tailor instruction in response to the specific needs of participants.

Maintenance of Certification (MAINPORT)/Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credit
The Sepsis course is an accredited Group Learning Activity as defined by the Maintenance of Certification (MAINPORT) Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
